Education
|
An important part of the mission of MusicWorks in the Berkshires is to contribute to the appreciation and enjoyment of music through music education.
Prior to each performance our Artistic Director, Mark Ludwig together with other performers and music educators, historians, and composers hosts a pre-concert talk to discuss that evening’s concert program. Lively, informative discussions between the presenters and the audience about the evening’s program often take place.
Over the years MusicWorks has presented many innovative educational programs including artist residencies, master classes, and family concerts intended to bring together family members children and adults to explore the riches of chamber music. Our audiences also have the opportunity to experience new works by contemporary composers commissioned by Musicworks and debuted by the Hawthorne String Quartet.
MusicWorks enjoys a long standing relationship with the Berkshire Music School in Pittsfield, Massachusetts which has led to numerous joint programs intended to advance student musicians’ knowledge, skills and enjoyment of chamber music. Members of the Hawthorne String Quartet and other symphony players give generously of their time to coach the Berkshire Music School’s young instrumentalists.
In addition, MusicWorks collaborates with Simons Rock College, Hancock Shaker Village and the Berkshire Institute for Lifetime Learning, providing educational programming for residents of and visitors to the Berkshires. It also makes a special effort to share with its audiences the ongoing efforts of its Artistic Director, Mark Ludwig, in his capacity as Founder and Director of the Terezin Chamber Music Foundation (terezinmusic.org), to discover, perform and preserve the music of the holocaust which was composed in the Terezin concentration camp during World War II.
